New York Governor Andrew Cuomo shocked listeners Tuesday when he dropped the n-word live on the radio while talking about discrimination.

Roommates, Governor Andrew Cuomo took to Twitter yesterday to confirm he plans on legalizing recreational marijuana in the state of New York. According to his tweet, the move is in an effort to raise revenue and “end failed prohibition of this product that has left so many communities of color over-policed and over-incarcerated.” He also added: We will legalize adult-use recreational cannabis, joining 15 states that have already done so,” he tweeted on Monday. Currently, the estimate for the legalization of recreational marijuana would reportedly help bring n over $300 million in tax revenue.

In an announcement, Gov. Cuomo’s office said a new body will oversee the state’s adult-use program, according to The Hill. Along with overseeing existing medical and cannabinoid hemp programs, this new body would also give “an equitable structure for the adult-use market that will be created by offering licensing opportunities and assistance to entrepreneurs in the communities of color who have been disproportionately impacted by the way on drugs.”

This isn’t the first time that Governor Cuomo has pushed for legalization of marijuana. Just last year, he signed legislation that would decriminalize marijuana use and also provide some individuals who have had marijuana convictions in the past with possible opportunities to have their records expunged. The topic of decriminalization of marijuana use at large has been much more progressive these past two years. If his efforts hold, New York will be joining 15 other states who have made recreational marijuana use legal.
