A disgruntled Frank Lampard gave an intriguing interview after another disappointing display away from home. (chelseafc.com)
The Chelsea legend admitted that too many of his players “didn’t do the basics” in his post-match interview on a rainy night at the King Power, having admitted we were beaten by the “better team”.
The result follows a string of poor performances from the West London outfit and mounts even more pressure on the man in charge, with some reports claiming Lampard’s days in the dug-out are numbered.
Frank mentioned how the two goals were both down to poor defending, having conceded within the first five minutes of the game following a Leicester City corner before the Chelsea back four were carved open with ease for James Maddison to double the Foxes’ advantage before the break. Lampard reflected on how poor form lead to a lack of sharpness from his side and that it was moments of quality from the home side that decided the game.
Perhaps the most surprising part of the interview was when Lampard stated that too many of his players failed to ‘dig in’ in decisive moments during the game. In the modern game, we are used to hearing managers take responsibility and defending the players but it seems that the performance of some players left the Chelsea boss with no option.
As Frank Lampard’s future hangs in the balance, many Chelsea fans are holding their breath for an announcement that is edging closer towards becoming inevitable. Can Frank turn Chelsea’s fortunes around, or will a new man be brought in to steady the ship in a desperate attempt to clinch top four?
Chelsea take on Luton in the FA cup next in what many hope is yet another much-needed confidence boost against lower league opposition, but Lampard will know he cannot afford any more slip-ups.
