What it means for you

  • If you own one of the recalled Bodum French presses, stop stirring coffee in the glass carafe with metal spoons, and contact Bodum for a plastic stirring spoon and a warning label.
  • Stop using DREO DR-HSH015 space heaters made from April 2025 to January 2026, and contact DREO for a free replacement.
  • Owners of recalled NTI and HTP gas boilers should stop using them and book a free repair. If you must keep one running, have working smoke and CO alarms.
  • The CPSC urges a yearly professional inspection of fuel-burning heating systems, including furnaces, boilers and chimneys.
  • Two dressers that can tip over if not anchored, a nursing pillow and HAIARA power banks are among the other recalls.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced 12 recalls on October 29, led by Bodum USA's recall of about 5.9 million French press coffee makers sold in the United States since 1974. The list also includes two heating products: about 338,800 DREO space heaters that can overheat and catch fire, and 4,726 NTI and HTP gas boilers that carry fire and carbon monoxide risks.

The French press recall

The recall covers Bodum's 8-cup and 12-cup Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya French presses with replaceable glass carafes. According to the recall notice, a carafe whose glass is cracked or damaged, for example by a metal spoon used to stir the coffee, can break without warning while in use. Bodum USA has identified 70 reports of carafes breaking in use, including 48 reports of burns.

The presses sold for about $15 to $65 at Target and Walmart, in coffee and home goods stores and online. Most models carry the Bodum name on the frame and the inner lid, and it is also engraved on the glass carafe. The remedy is a plastic stirring spoon and a warning label from Bodum, not a refund or a new press: owners should stop stirring coffee in the glass carafe with metal spoons or utensils right away and contact Bodum. Its recall line, 888-879-8213, is open on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time. The label reminds owners never to use a carafe that is cracked or damaged.

Heaters and boilers

The DREO recall covers model DR-HSH015 ceramic electric heaters, which are black, stand about 13 inches tall and 11.5 inches wide and come with a remote control. Only heaters manufactured from April 2025 through January 2026 are affected; the manufacture date, in year/month format, and the model number are on a label underneath. DREO has received 17 reports of heaters igniting, three with property damage and one with a burn injury to the hand. The heaters were sold at Costco and online at retailers including Best Buy, Home Depot, Kohl's, Lowe's and QVC from September 2025 through October 2026 for $70 to $110. Owners should stop using them right away and contact DREO for a free replacement; the company will ask them to unplug the heater, destroy it by cutting the cord and send a photo of it.

The boiler recall covers gray NTI boilers in the FTVN and TFTN series and black HTP boilers in the EFTU series, within serial number ranges listed in the notice; the serial number is on the rating plate on the left side. The condensate dish inside can crack during a delayed ignition, letting unburned gas build up in the sealed cabinet, and if that gas ignites, the front cover can suddenly come off. The firm has received 34 reports of the dish breaking, including three in which the front cover detached. In one reported incident, a technician servicing a boiler suffered a broken jaw. The boilers were sold through heating and plumbing contractors and distributors from May 2021 through July 2026 for $3,200 to $7,700. Owners should stop using them and schedule a free repair by a certified technician through Ariston, the manufacturer, at 800-688-2575. Anyone who must keep using one until then should have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas. Accidental carbon monoxide poisoning linked to consumer products, outside of fires, kills more than 200 people in the U.S. every year, according to the CPSC, which names heating equipment and portable generators as leading causes. The agency urges households to have every fuel-burning heating system checked by a professional once a year: furnaces, boilers, water heaters, fireplaces and wood stoves, along with chimneys, flues and vents. It also recommends battery-powered or battery-backup CO alarms on each floor and outside bedrooms. Symptoms of poisoning include headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness and confusion; anyone who suspects it should get outside to fresh air and then call 911.

The minoxidil products should be kept out of children's sight and reach right away. Most of these remedies require a photo of the product, often marked "Recalled" or destroyed, and each company's contact details are in its notice on the CPSC recalls list.
